[IBC] Local Bonsai nurseries
Hi, I live in North Carolina on the coast in Morehead City. I was wondering if anyone knows of any nearby bonsai nurseries or clubs. I have checked the phone book but cannot find anything involving bonsai specifically. The local nurseries carry some goo
d bonsai material, but no one around here (that I can find) specializes in it. Does anyone know where I could go, besides the internet, to get all my bonsai supplies? Thanks a lot! ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by Evergreen Gardenworks++++ ************************************************** ****************************** -- The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ -- +++++ Questions? A list, unfortunately, NOT by state, can be found at: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/links/linksupp.html I don't know where Cherryville is (I've been to Morehead City), but there's a place called the Growing Grounds (Marc Torpa - (704) 445-3009) that showed at the recent MidAtlantic convention, If you feel like an excursion, There's Ron Martin's Tokoname Bonsai in Summerville, South Carolina (I'm sending him a copy so that you'll have his eMail address.) He would be a good person to point you toward other sources (and events) nearer to you. A Google search on "Bonsai North Carolina NC" turned up the following: Silver Bonsai Gallery 905 US 64/264, Manteo (252) 475 1413 You might also try the Bonsai Clubs of the Carolinas at: http://www.bonsaicarolina.com/Resources.htm Regards, Bart ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by Evergreen Gardenworks++++ ************************************************** ****************************** -- The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ -- +++++ Questions? There are probably some not far from you. A list, unfortunately, NOT by state, can be found at: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/links/linksupp.html That, unfortunately, is probably so far out of date as to be useless. I'd gladly take volunteers to cull through the back of recent bonsai magazines, club newsletters, etc. and post message here for recommendations enroute to updating (AND MAINTAINING) this part of the FAQ. That person (or persons) also would have carte blanche on organizing it by state or by whatever he or she would want. ;-) I'm copying Webmaster John Jarrett on this -- just in case he's got something else planned. g Jim Lewis - - Tallahassee, FL -- Bonsai List manager ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by Evergreen Gardenworks++++ ************************************************** ****************************** -- The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ -- +++++ Questions? It shouldn't be too big a job, if we can get one person from each club to tell us who's in their neighborhood, and to distinguish between full-time and weekend (or by appointment) operations. Does anyone know where I could go, besides the internet, to get all my bonsai supplies? Thanks a lot! -------------------------- Greetings from Raleigh, NC! I know there was a bonsai club in Morehead City, but I don't know if they are still functioning. There is a new bonsai club (Cape Fear Bonsai Society) in Wilmington NC that started up last year or the year before. There website address is: http://members.aol.com/barkerfred/bonsai.htm They may be able to help you with info on local bonsai nurseries. There is also the club here in Raleigh, Triangle Bonsai Society: http://www.intrex.net/trianglebonsai/. We are having a meeting this Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in Raleigh. Ted Matson is the guest speaker. He will be giving a lecture/demo on maximizing the use of deadwood on juniper bonsai. If you can make it to the meeting, you are more than welcome to attend. Steve Pilacik has a nice bonsai nursery in Fuquay-Varina NC, just south of Raleigh. His website is: http://www.matsumomiji.com/. There is Ron Martin's bonsai nursery in Summerville SC: http://www.tokonoma.com/. Someone mentioned The Growing Grounds in Cherryville NC (somewhere between Charlotte and Asheville). Their website is: http://www.thegrowinggrounds.com/. And in Charlotte NC is The Bonsai Learning Center: http://www.bonsailearningcenter.com/. Also mentioned was The Silver Bonsai Gallery in Manteo NC: http://www.silverbonsai.com/bonsai.html. Hope this helps! Besides Merritt's excellent suggestions, here's an event to plan ahead for to feed your bonsai habit! The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville hosts a Bonsai Expo 2nd weekend every October, where you'll find multiple vendors, as well as lectures and demonstrations. Their collection's curator, Arthur Joura, is a generous, knowledgable, irreverent guy, with a particular fondness for local material. I plan to drive down this year for my special birthday trip Here's a link describing last year's; detailed info on this year's hasn't made it onto the NCA's website yet. http://www.ncarboretum.org/PublicPrograms/PR9-20-02.htm And you can read more about NCA's trees, and see some images at http://www.bonsai-wbff.org/nabf/news...carboretum.htm See you there, a! I met a guy some years back in Myrtle Beach who was from Wilmington, NC and
had a nursery called Moyogi Bonsai. I don't know if he's still in business - worth a look. "asmith7" wrote in message news:016d01c30b52$8faa1ca0$f6de3842@DD5QVX11...
