[IBC] collected maple growth
 

i collected and interesting twin trunk field maple last fall. was about 18
feet high... trunk chopped it to about 18 inches. it made it through the
winter. but all the new growth is pushing out at the very base of the tree
and from the roots. the cambium is still green higher on the trunk. has
anyone seen this growth habit before? Im thinking it is the trees easiest
way to gain strength without pushing growth higher up. someone told me..
that higher growth will occur later and then i could pinch out the lower
stuff. hopefully the trunk doesnt die in the mean time and it deosnt end up
looking like those trees you see someone has cut down in their yard.. but
never had time to remove the stump.
