[IBC] Ok To Chop?

I just acquired a Japanese maple (green-leafed). It is about 7' tall, with
300-400 leaves.

Is it ok to chop it down to 2' now, leaving only about 15 leaves?

It was in a pot in the ground, and so a fair number of roots had to be
severed.

Thanks,

Jim

No problem at all. If it were me though, I'd consider layering it at
just above that height and get two trees out of it.

Cheers

[IBC] Ok To Chop?

Kevin,

Do you think the leaf/root balance won't be too out of balance?

Also, I fear I won't get a bud anywhere near where I chop. Should I leave
some inches of safety by chopping well above where the new leader should
be, or should I chop exactly where I want it?

Thanks,

JIm
