Stolen landscaping trees

Incredibly, in the 15 July Chicago Tribune there's an article about thieves
in Michigan stealing trees planted on peoples lawns! Not bonsai but regular
trees i.e. J.Maples and other fairly expensive ones. I think they mentions
trees as low as $300.00. The story details a woman leaving for work after
glancing at her maple and then coming home to see an empty hole where the
tree had been. What is the world come to? Who would buy stolen landscape
or bonsai? These events are occuring in Michigan at various locations and
it might be possible that the thieves are using this material for bonsai (?)
I can remember Dale C's and Herb What'shis name (Seattle) talking about
thier trees (collections) being stolen. Keep your eyes open. Let's catch
some of these low lifes and enjoy your trees as long as you have them.

In New York City, and probably elsewhere, new trees & shrubs in public parks
are planted chained to a dead man (a large log buried in the ground) or a
nearby fence.
