New England area: Bonsai show this weekend
There will be a bonsai show this weekend at Tower Hill Botanic
Gardens, September 13-14, 10 A.M.–5:00 P.M each day. Tower Hill is east of Worcester, MA, easily reached from main highways. (See http://www.towerhillbg.org/ for info and directions). There will be exhibits of bonsai trees from several of the N.E. area clubs and local vendors. The esteemed Colin Lewis will be at the preview party (with lecture by Colin) on the evening of Friday the 12th. Colin will be doing a day-long session on Saturday the 13th as 'artist in residence'. This should be especially interesting for any readers of this list, as he can be expected to pay more attention to the work in progress than is possible at ordinary demos. There will be several ongoing talks during Saturday and Sunday, including tours of the exhibit. There also will be some basic lectures. The preview party with Colin Lewis will be on Friday September 12, 6:00 P.M., reservations required. Call 508-869-6111 x 36 for tickets. Tickets are $25 for appetizers & lecture. (I found the phone system a little awkward, maybe try '0' for a prompt.) Some of the local vendors will be selling, but it will be on a more modest scale than at the mega-conventions. Good chance to meet them: I believe Royal Bonsai, Bonsai West, and New England bonsai will all be there. There is an admission fee to Tower Hill, but the gardens alone are well worth the price to any plant fancier. (See web page for price.) |
