Great idea. Do you have anybody for South Africa? If not, I would be
willing to cover this area.

Folks, no need to "volunteer." Just DO it. ;-)

My Two Cents:

As a one-time frequent contribution and current-time infrequent contributor, I would concur with Jim. The beauty of the Internet Bonsai Club IS its universality. While climatic conditions obviously have a substantial impact on the care for specific speci
es, the true value in the IBC is the representative knowledge and varied skills of the participants.

With this said, there is no need to "assign" a query from South America to someone in South America. Discuss the art, styling techniques, maintenance and care, etc., and then refer these individuals to local practitioners for information on how a particula
r species is managed within the context of a particular environment.

In the end, we are speaking the language of ART. This, my friends, is not unique to a particular continent. It is the universal language of the world, and bonsai is a part of it.

As Jim said, just do it.

Cordially,

Michael Persiano

You know, FWIW I think the list works just fine as it is. Why -assign-
thing to any of us. We see something come in, we respond. Local folks
usually know what works best in their climate/area, and if we see something
a little -off- in the reply, then someone else chimes in with their two
cents. What's to fix? We do good just like we are. Don't we?
Just my .02.

Absolutely right Shelly .... If it ain't broke, don't mess with it.

I'm a newbie with less than a years experience under my belt. When I've
asked a question, I've received responses from all over the world. Everyone
of them have improved my understanding. Hopefully within a few years I'll be
able to help others, but at the moment I'm lurking in the corners, cramming
my head full of knowledge.

Keep up the good work everyone ..... I'd hate to see this format change.

And Jim .... Thanks for making this group an enjoyable experience.

What's to fix is that the list will go away of there
isn't a Jim replacement.

I agree that the help parts of the list do take care
of themselves.

Well, don't worry. It's unfortunate that someone continued this
thread (newbie help) under this title (the list).

The list is going to be around.

In the gawdawful writing style that I used to have to edit:
Choices have been made, training is being undertaken, and
announcements are being planned.

G'day all...

Jim said (something like this):"…The IBC has survived as virtual anarchy for
a lot of years now. And, as they say in my neck of the world: 'Wall, Bubbah,
iffen it ain't broke, I ain't gonna bother fixin' it.' Roscoe, MBA, University
of Florida…"

Doesn't our "organization" work well? Let's leave campartmentalization (words
can get tooo big, can't they?) and niches to the business world. I had more
than enough of that before retirement!

Sure would be a bad scene if it were "IBCally incorrect" for me in Arizona to
expect to have a chance to hear from Jim L...Alan W...Reiner G...Shelly
H...Nina S...Anita H...Michael P...Colin L...Dale C...the Brits...the
Aussies...ond on, and on, and on...just because I fit into a different
geographical compartment.

Geographical location obviously is very important to the cultivation of bonsai,
and to that end, I think we should encourage EVERY BODY to tag a geo location
to his/her signature.

'Nuff said...

Have a good day...
