He http://www.pinerytree.com/ is the tree farm that produced
the Rosemary Christmas tree I was given.

It is located just north of San Diego California in the San
Parquet valley (which I have never heard of). It suggests to me
that my little tree probably has been so overstressed by
transport and time in store that it is unlikely to survive much
beyond the holidays.

They do this sort of thing exclusively (various sizes, I
suppose). Trees they grow are those you have seen in
supermarkets, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc. as desktop Christmas
trees. The fatality rate must be amazing.

Some interesting trees: Aleppo Pine, Blue point juniper, Deodar
cedar, Eldarica pine, Italian stone pine, Leyland cypress,
Monterey pine, Rosemary.

They give quite good instructions for the care of each -- in and
out of a pot -- after the holidays, and caution clearly that
these are NOT indoor plants.

The Eldarica pine (Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Southern Russia)
sounds (and looks) like a nice bonsai candidate. I've never seen
one. Blue point juniper also is good.

For those of you in the San Diego area, it might be worth a
visit -- though I suspect they're wholesale only.

It must be my year. I received two live "Christmas" trees as gifts this
year: An Alberta Spruce and a Blue Pine.
I don't hold much hope for either one.
The Pine came from Jackson & Perkins in Medford, OR. I not sure the source
of the Spruce.
