[IBC] website - using the list to urge other so engage in illegal activity
Liam,
The following may help to save the list managers some liability in the futu ----- Original Message ----- From: "Liam" I'm not advocating ripping off other people's work! All I said was that it's beneficial to take a look at other people's source code to get some tips and ideas. Liam -------------------- Excuse me, but your words: "Or, do what lots of people do: copy someone else's page. Take the basic structure and as long as you don't use any of their images, you're not doing anything illegal (at least nothing that can be proven to be illegal)..." Liam --------- ....do NOT suggest "looking at other people's source code for tips and ideas. And to correct your further bad advice, it IS illegal. You clearly spell out taking (your term) someone eles's code and not using the images. That is theft and copyright infringement, pure and simple. Yes, surely you can come up with all sorts of justification and mitigation to explain yourself and feel good about this, but your clear suggestion is plainly unethical on its base. What you suggest here is no different from stealing some Apple Mac computers, ripping the guts out and putting them into your own branded shells and representing them as your own brand. Go ahead and visit http://www.pirated-sites.com/ or one of the similar sites and read about the theft, the loss the litigation and the generally unethical goings on as a result of idiots applying their liberal approach to theft to the web. Liam, I urge you not to use this list to urge others to engage in unethical or illegal activity. Maybe I went a bit overboard on "liberalism" in my first post. I was only trying to help. I should have said in my first post what I said in my second - look at other people's sites for tips on how to achieve effects and structures, eg. tables and so on. Liam |
