[IBC] Old age in leaves (was: [IBC] willow leaf bonsai dropping leaves)

Why does this happen? I dunno. Maybe it's getting ready to go

outside, and
is shedding its old and dusty leaves.

Yup. No leaf is forever -- even "evergreens". On average, a
leaf lives a year -- sometimes two. When their time comes, they
turn color, die, and drop. Usually, a number of leaves decide to
become mulch at the same time, causing beginners to horticulture
to get into a tizzy.

But it's normal.

Really SICK leaves often will skip the turning yellow stage,
wither (or go limp), dry out, and turn brown (or black).
Sometimes they don't drop, because they also haven't taken (or
had) the time to sever the connection between petiole and branch
as they do when old age reaches them.
