[IBC] quercus bleeding

i trunk chopped a quercus agrifola, a few weeks ago. angle cut it and
sealed with that japanese sealer (green stuff in tube) well it bleeding,
hopefully not to death. i just recently moved it to a more shady spot.
should i be worried? or let mother nature work its course?

Lou: First, please use capital letters at least at the start of your sentences.
Many of us have aging eyes which can use all the help they can get. All lower case
messages tend to be a bother to read. Thanks.
Second, what is your climate right now? Are you in the northern hemisphere where it
is currently winter? If so, you certainly didn't pick the optimal time to make a
major pruning cut on your oak. Any tree going into dormancy is primarily storing up
energy, not using it for growth.
Your oak is probably bleeding, because it is doing what it is genetically
programmed to do: pump sap up to feed buds which are going to pop out and grow
leaves to enable the tree to produce chlorophyl and achieve photosynthesis, etc.

The sapflow should subside in the evening--especially if it is cool. At that time, dry the cut site and reapply a German sealant--Lac-Balsam.

Cordially,

Michael Persiano
