[IBC] roots
----- Original Message -----
From: "ss" Hi Everybody Some of the first bonsai books I read suggested that roots thicken faster if covered by soil. However, I've seen it said somewhere (bonsai gallery?) that the poster was going to expose the roots to allow them to fatten. Can anybody enlighten me?? Thanks ---------------------- Hi SS (?), They fatten in these situations for different reasons. Underground, they tend to grow a bit faster and above ground they put on bark. Each of these things will add size. So pick your poison. I'd suggest, however, that if you plan to use said root as part of the visible nebari, get it exposed asap so that it has the same bark quality as the lower trunk.
