[IBC] Fertilizer, NPK, micronutrients and soil
 

G'day all...

A couple of comments regarding Brent's article.

I DID change my soil mix (fresh bark) and fert practices after reading Brent's
article. I can't say that I've seen astonishing results, but NO negative
impact.

In listening to what Brent has to say, we must consider that he has 20
something (or more) years experience, and has worked with thousands of plants.
I certainly have confidence in his qualifications to give out this kind of
advice.

Further, Brent says to use the fert following label directions...full strength.

And, says he, complicated fert schemes are not necessarily better.

Keep it simple!

None of this is to say that everyone should religously follow Brent's advice.
There are countless fert methods out there...and it's likely that all of them
work...sometimes... for someone...someplace...to some degree.

Regarding Brent's article, I found it interesting that in California (Zone 9),
he recommends feeding every two weeks, while in Scandinavia they found that
feed with every watering was better. Years & years ago, maybe even before I
grew orchids, I was told to feed "weekly weakly," but that was primarily
windowsill growing. I've been feeding weekly ever since, and that works fine
for me. However, for summer outdoors and in the brightly lit plant room, I use
fertilizer full strength.

he recommends feeding every two weeks, while in Scandinavia they found that
feed with every watering was better. Years & years ago, maybe even before I

I guess I emulate the Scandinavians, since I use a 1/4 teaspoon to a gallon of water five days a week (weekdays) in my last watering. I use clear water on the weekends to wash away most of the salts. This is my process during the winter in my Tree House!

you live in Canada do you? did I correct understand : you water yorr
trees and when well watered you give in the last water a 1/4 of teaspoon
of fertilizer per gallon , Right ?
