Best time is right after soil defrosts in spring, then all the stored energy goes into the new growth. Do a diagonal cut with the eventual front at the top of the cut and the slice area to the back of the tree. Front determined by nebari and trunk appearance. Please remove my email address from your list. I am no longer involved with bonsai in anyway and do not want to receive further emails in that regard. Thank you for your help in this matter.
