Hackberry chop

I just purchased a Chinese Hackberry from our local nursery.

It has nice trunk size and taper. The Hackberry has not leafed out yet
but the buds look like they are about to break open,

I want to chop the trunk and put it in a growbox. Should I wait until
it has leafed out completely or is now fine?

Thanks,
Dan

i WOULDN'T CHOP IT AFTER THE LEAVES TOTALLY OPENED. MAY AS WELL CHOP IT NOW AND PRUNE ROOTS NOW, BFORE THE LEAVES OPEN. dON'T FORGET TO TREAT THE CUT WITH SOMETHING AFTERWARD.. YOU CAN ALSO AIRLAYER THE TREE THIS WAY YOU MAY GET 2 TREES OUT OF IT

I WOULD CHOP IT BEFORE THE LEAVES OPEN. AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE CHOP IS TO AIR LAYER IT WHERE YOU WOULD CHOP IT. THIS WAY YOU GET 2 TREES OUT OF IT.
