Boxwood plants
I have just planted about 10 boxwood plants in my garden. The plants
are about 1 -1.5 ft tall. Soon after planting them, I have realized that about half of them have a bright yellow margin around some of the leaves (only some branches seem affected). A bit of googling left me with more questions than answers. I think that the problem may be marginal chlorosis, however there seem to be *a lot* of possible causes for that. Living in the Vancouver area, I think we can rule out lack of water as one of them. thx, Luca (new to gardening) |

How is the sun in that area that you planted your boxwoods?
I think they need sunny to very light shade areas to grow. We only planted one to see if it would survive because of the sun issue -- it's still alive but it's not looking too good sort of spindly (more so than when we planted it. Many of the trees that had yellow edges when we moved in are green this year and all we did was thin out the undergrowth a bit. I don't know if it was letting in more sun or getting rid of plants that might have had problems that were spreading 'cause we cut out the ones that looked really bad. Your planrts are fine. I have seen millions and millions of boxwood and many
of them have this small yellow band to them. It depends on variety. Dont be such a worry wart! If i had a nickel for all the customers that came in with a branch with conspicuous lenticels, thinking they were insects....... Toad |
