Default Preen on strawberries

The Preen.com web site says that Preen will stunt strawberries' growth and
should only be used on the varieties sometimes used for ground cover.

I'm pretty content with using my trusty
newspaper-covered-with-grass-clippings mulch except for times like rght now
when some of our lawn grass has weed killer on it. So I'm wondering ...
have any of you used Preen on strawberries without any loss of crop volume?
