Default Tropical moisture meter (hygrometer)

My wife purchased this object from a garden supply centre. The
instructions are lean on information but it looks like one of
those meat thermometers you stick in the meat to see if it is
rare, medium or well done.

The sensor shaft appears to be stainless steel and is seamless.
Can anyone tell me about it? Can it be used outside? Is it
accurate?

Moisture meters can be used inside and outside. More appropriate for inside
use since it/s not easy to get your finger deep into the soil to assess
moisture near the bottom of the pot. Judicious use of the meter will
prevent your housepolants from getting root rot.

For your outside plants, all you need to do is scratch two or three inches
into the soil with your finger to feel if it/s dry. No need to worry about
root rot unles your garden site drains poorly.

They are often inaccurate.
