It already have the pollen developing and tassels. What can cause corn grow
so short? I see this in other gardens here at the community garden.

Corn needs a lot of water and uses a lot of N.

I've grown corn this summer for the first time in about a zillion years.
The garden space I have access to gets sun only about half the day, so I
wasn't expecting a terrific crop. I planted 3 10-foot rows of Golden
Bantam and one 10-foot row of Butter and Sugar. The Golden Bantam has
yeilded some great corn (just had two ears for lunch!), but the B&S has
long, thin ears with some underdeveloped kernels. What would cause this?

Is there a problem with planting so few of one variety? I'm not clear on
corn pollination, so I don't know if it maybe neeed more of its own
"kind" for pollination.


I planted the corn in early June, I think. We had a very, very hot July
and so far a cool August.

Also, why is corn planted in hills?
