No, I am not a self-hating American, but when I compare us with other
nations in Europe (for example), we are fat, out of control with
alcohol and drugs, insane government and it's woefully inadequate
presidential administration. People in Europe must think we are the
dumbest nation on earth for simply re-electing the bafoon as our
leader.

Aren't you forgetting we never really elected him in the first place? :-)

Sadly, enough people voted for him that it was possible to get him first
and then again. :-(

I like the label that one company had on their goods exported to France,
"Don't blame us, we didn't vote for him," in French. If anyone knows who
that was, please post; I didn't write it down and would like to have it.

My greatest hope is that the rest of the world realizes that half this
country does not agree with much of what is done. That's probably true in
most countries, not just here. Underneath the politics and posing, surely
most people are pretty much the same throughout this planet; however, many
get terribly mislead and "go with the flow" of the moment. So sad.

Cars . . . what a story there! Count me among those who don't get it why
this country is so in love with huge autos. I'll never figure out why
someone living in an apartment, drives only to work (paved roads!), needs
a huge four-wheel drive, double cab truck. How in the world we raised
three children without an SUV, mini-van, etc., must puzzle many today. I
had a difficult time deciding on a foreign car this last time around, but
as my son told me, "Buy once non-American or support the oil industry
twice as much." (Not a direct quote but close.) I love my Toyota Prius
and the 50 mpg it gets (real, not bragging, that's overall for nearly
three years now). I'm looking forward to a good all electric, but then
I'm the one hoping my roof holds out until I can financially afford a
solar-shingle roof. With that roof, I should be at least 60 percent
non-dependent on others for power.

My Prius, like all my past automobiles have, carries things most don't
carry in their fancy trucks. You know, things like plants, bales of hay,
vinegar/soy barrels for rain barrels or garden planting, chicken feed,
1x6, 2x4, etc. lumber up to 8 feet long, rolls of fence wire, potting
soil, etc., as well as the conventional things like groceries.g

BTW, Portland, Oregon, has special parking (free) for all electric cars
with an outlet to plug in the car (also free!). Kewl, eh?

I finally planted my poor tomatillas this morning. They have been in the
original starter tray all this time. If all is kind, they will grow and
prosper. Yesterday, the feed store has all their plants on closeout for
four for $1 so I bought 15 pepper plants, mostly purple and orange and two
cayennes, and got them in the ground as well. The feed store still has
many dozens of tomato plants as well.

I lust after a Citroen Pluriel which can be a sports car or a tiny truck
with a flatbed or a sedan etc etc.......
