The Book of Rarer Vegetables by George Wythes,Gardener to the Duke of
Northumberland & Harry Roberts,1906,VGC,109 pages.
Really useful old gardening manual on sone very unusual
vegetables, with a small section at the end of each section on how to
cook or pickle. Contains some georgeous period engravings.

I think that old gardening books are worth their weight in gold, considering
the amount of information they have in them. Often they sell for next to
nothing.

I personally like Sanders' Encyclopedia of Gardening, revised by A.J.
MacSelf. Originally published in 1895, now up to 1934 at least.

I've got the Readers Digest "The Gardening Year" from 1968 which was an
absolute treasure to help me control the garden in all it's variety. It
goes by month and covers everything though i suspect the timing of
things is now a little way off.
Nevertheless, you can't enjoy a garden until you can at least have an
idea of when and how to do the basic stuff. There doesn't seem to be the
equivalent nowadays.
Also have "The NEW small garden " as well as Saunders etc. However I
have a feeling the OP wasn't so much as recommending the book as touting
for a customer :)
