Im posting this in order to address my target market group and attain feedback in regard to my design ideas.

my aim is to design a product which will grow edible plants indoors and it is mainly your response to the look of the product but any other information would be very welcome

Gardening 1 design is similar to that of roll on deoderant with a lid that can be removed when plants are ready and supplies light and water

Gardening 2 design is a lamp shade style design which enbles the plants to grow and sprays a fine mist for watering as well as artificial light


Gardening 3 is a product which can be suspeneded in a kitchen by a chord and revolves allowing the plants to be exsposed to sunlight.

Son, you have some fine pictures and all, but what is it you are trying to
do? Are you making the design first and then fitting the plants to it? Have
you done any research into similiar projects? ? What plants are you
targeting to grow and why? Personally I think that the plants, the
lighting, spacing, nute delivery, etc would guide the design. No lights?
you will limit your growing season. The Aerograden ( as mentioned to you
previous) http://www.aerogrow.com/ works as advertised and they have the
proprietary product$ and light$ to keep you coming back ( unless you know
where to look and some idea of reverse engineering to workaround) ) . There
are some slick designs out there, for instance:

circular staircase designs, etc, not to mention trays, tables and buckets
and many things to grow your plants in. .

You would not need misting (#2) if you used a Hydro system, in fact I don't
think a misting is much good at all unless you need the humidity or cooling
, on roots yes.
BTW, your previous post on Mirrors? No, very inefficient. Mylar is
best or even a flat white coat of paint would be better ( Photography
lesson... learn to measure light, also look up Kelvin Temps and at the law
of inverse square for lighting. As for lights, save the watt...look to LED
and certain CFLs or even the T5s which again is going to dictate your
design... just make sure you are hitting the right color spectrum and
wavelengths for the plants.

material that may help. Know what plants need what as to growing and/or
flowering,and to what intensity ...low, medium and high light requirement
plants There is so much info out there on any facet of hydro/aero/aqua
ponics you might want to know about. You can grow 11 crops of lettuces a
year in
a carefully managed system and even 3 crops of hot house tomatoes/cukes....

great source of info. There was another PhD I thought from OR that was
close to a garden Hydro system design for a 1500 calorie a day similiar to
the Keyhole Garden that was recently a topic here. I think if she would
have added a aquaculture tank to her design she could have done it or
perhaps chickens to get some extra calories, provide an additional nitrogen
source and an IPM system. Dr Howard Resh

This is going to invoke an outcry, but Organic ain't got nothing on Hydro
for the family needs, expecially looking towards the future. Have you
thought about urban rooftop designs? Think along these lines and design
something that will feed a family, make em feel like they are eco-friendly,
clean their air and look pretty doing it.
