Are they in full sun? How long is your growing season and what is the temperature? How do you feed and water them? Do they have any insect or fungal damage? D |

You can get more squash per plant with some types of small winter squash of the species Cucurbita pepo, but with butternut (C. moschata) and Hubbards (C. maxima) three or four is a pretty good average. Squash vines tend to set a fruit to whatever point they can support, then abort any further fruit in favor of maturing the fruit they have already set. How many they set depends not only on species and cultivar but also on growing conditions in any particular season. -- Pat in Plymouth MI "Yes, swooping is bad." email valid but not regularly monitored |
