Longevity of juglone
 

We are in the process of demolishing a large shed which stood right
beside a very large black walnut tree. There are probably many
hundreds of pounds of compost on the roof of the shed, mainly from the
black walnut husks, leaves, etc.
Any speculation on whether or not this is safe to spread on the
vegetable garden?
How long before juglone is denatured?

i think it is a component of the material,
so more would become available as the material
degrades.

i'd not risk it.

spreading it very thin on the lawn or a wild
field or using it as a pathway mulch for raised
beds would be two uses for it. keeping mud
down in a dirt drive during the wet season...
hmm... bury it and build a new shed over it? ;)
