Soup
 
Going to freeze tonight according to the weather heads. We went ahead
and picked as much delicate stuff in the garden that we could. Then a
thought hit, how about soup?

Cabbage, onion's, tomatoes, whatever was in danger. Washed them all,
prepped, made a soup, looks and smells nice, most likely will taste very
good. In addition we have the other half of a ribeye steak we had last
night to go with plus I just made a small loaf of multigrain bread
today. Even the dog like the smell.

We've disconnected the hoses from the faucets, drained them, then put
the foam covers on the faucets, just in case. I suspect we won't get a
hard freeze but it will be right at freezing temperature by dawn
tomorrow. First time in almost three years for a freeze, hopefully the
weather heads got it wrong again. G

This evening I made a nice mess of Sloppy Joe, lots of chopped onions,
garlic, onion tops, red bell pepper, and lots of other stuff on homemade
multi grain bread with extra sliced red peppers on the side. You have to
keep the kitchen warm in the winter time. G

It's only going to get down to 34F tonight and last night wasn't as bad
as the weather folk claimed, temps for the next week or in the mid
forties to mid fifties. So much for winter here.

Winter garden is growing well and we are still picking sweet peppers,
eggplant, and a few tomatoes. Will pick the last of the tomatoes tomorrow.

The highly touted black tomatoes were a bust, none got much bigger than
an inch across and were not at all tasty. Don't know if they just didn't
like our dirt, were bad seed to start, or whatever it was.

We try something new every spring or fall and some we win, and many we
lose. Gardening in this climate is quite often a crap shoot. I do need
to prune the pear tree tomorrow or I will miss my window of opportunity.
