Self-seeding parsnip question

Edible gardeners,

A couple of years ago on this list, I bemoaned not being able to get my
parsnips to germinate. Someone suggested letting a parsnip go to seed in
my garden and, since a few did germinate, I followed the suggestion. In
fact I had parsnips germinating last fall, and because we had a mild
winter, the seedlings overwintered and are now bolting. Other seeds
germinated early this spring, and I have a veritable bed of parsnips in one
part of the garden.

Here's my question. I need to thin them. Should I favor the ones that are
larger (i.e., germinated earlier), or the smaller ones, that germinated at
closer to the time I would have sown them?

Many thanks for any responses, privately or to the group.

Marcia
