Has anyone tried planting sprouted seeds in a starch solution?
I've heard about mixing sprouted seeds in a room temperature solution made
by boiling 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in a pint of water and letting it cool. The sprouts are mixed in, and the whole works put into a clear plastic produce bag. Then, snip a corner off the bag and squirt the seeded solution into a furrow, as if you were using a pastry bag. Understand this simplifies and makes more uniform your planting, also protects the sprout for the first 24 hours or so. Has anyone tried this? |

You may find cornstarch a little think but any gel type substance that is not toxic to the seed will work. Its known as 'fluid' sowing. You can actually allow the seed to germinate in the gel 'before' sowing, or prechit the seed on tissue and then transfer to to mixture and sow, if you wish.. A dilute AGAR mix might be another option. Good for sometimes tricky germinators such as parsnips and parsley etc.. ... Jim |
