Where can I buy one, and what do you think about them? I saw one at a sight
I think was called the hobby gardener. They wanted 425 bucks plus s&h. It
was portable with white plastic covering and was 5X6. The price seems kind
of steep. I live in central Illinois and wonder if one would be advisable in
this area. I wonder if plants would freeze if I started seeds in early
February. Thanks for your opinions.

Little greenhouses have trouble with big temperature fluctuations. They
get very cold on a chilly night and get hot real fast on a sunny day. I
suppose the white (rather than clear) covering would help a little.
I would think you would have to add a lot of heat to keep it above
freezing in February.

There are plans on the web for ones made with cheap PVC pipe. $425 will buy a
lot of pvc and thick mil plastic.

I made my own, and it took maybe 40 dollars and one afternoon of work.
Definitely things will freeze inside it in february. However, I place
it on the southside of the house, directly against the wall, and my
tomatoes are typically outside the house around April 15, and into the
greenhouse. I take them inside if 26F or below is forecast, which
around here is typically twice until May 20. The GH plus the location
will take care of temps of 27 and higher. I suggest wheels if you are
going to build your own, and permanent plastic on all sides except
underside and the side facing the house, which you will use also to
access the plants inside.
