red beauties won't turn red

I just found this site, and hope someone can help me. I live in OH.
Our red beauty peppers are big and green and have been for awhile now.
Last yr. we waited for them to turn red and by the time they did they
got moldy! Is there something I can do to get them to turn red? TIA,
