Garlic - Dig or not?

Some garlic left in the field have 6" tops. Is it better to dig and
divide them now or leave them as is?

If you don't divide, you'll get clusters of very small bulbs next year. If
you do divide them, you'll get bigger but not full-sized bulbs, since they
were in effect planted _way_ too early. Why not have some nice "green
garlic" for the kitchen (or market, if there's enough) right now?
