C02 Injection

What size C02 tank should I get for a 200 gallon tank? I haven't seen
anyone really talk about how fast one goes through C02.

Many thanks,
Kevin

The way to go through CO2 really fast is to have a leak. If you don't have any
significant leaks then you can go with a 5 or 10 pound cylinder, with 10 lb being
the better choice for that size aquarium. One year of use would be typical but it
mostly depends on the rate at which the aquarium will lose CO2. CO2 loss comes
from surface agitation, open tops without covers, and only to a small degree the
plant growth.

The cost to refill is not much different between the sizes. At our local supplier,
it is $15 to refill a 5 lb and $25 for a 50 lb cylinder.

There is a 20 lb cylinder that would be attractive (you can still lift it when
full), but it is too tall to fit in most aquarium stands. It would be a good
choice if it works for you. One chart that I see lists the 20 lb cyl at 28" with a
diameter of 8". The 10 lb cyl is 21", and 19" for the 5 pounder.

FWIW-My 120 gallon plant tank goes through a 10 pound cylinder in 6-9
months and I run about 25ppm CO2.
