I've been using Aqua Glow bulbs with good results in my low light low
tech tank.

Someone suggested Power Glo bulbs instead (Also by Hagen). Is there
really a big difference?

I got an aqua-glo bulb that came with my hood when I first bought the whole
kit. Six months went by and I was happy with it until I wanted to grow
plants. I found that the growth was very slow on the low light plants I was
told would grow. Since then, I replaced the bulb with a power-glo and the
difference was obvious immediately, other than appearing much brighter, the
plants preferred it and grew faster.

Sherry, I'd definately recommend Power Glo for a high-intensity light. It
has a high "kelvin" rating of about 18,000...which is the highest out there.
It produces a broad spectrum very bright light. The color is also excellent
for showing off both fish and plant colors as well. If you use this light
make sure you are fertilizing properly and using some sort of carbon
supplement like C02 to prevent algae from taking hold.

Crypts do great in my 4wpg 8 inch deep 10 gallon tank....they fried for a
bit..then came back like gangbusters.

How about Floraglow bulbs?? Would they be better than Powerglo??

If you have the room use them all... I use 2 PowerGlo 1 AguaGlow and 1
FloraGlow works well
