hi all,

gosh. I didn't know where to ask this one..

I was staring at my tank (again)... and saw what I think are hydras... (if
I remember my high school biology book correctly). they look like short
white lint with fingers sticking out one end, while the other end is
anchored on glass, gravel, plants. there seems to be a whole bunch of them.
I haven't looked more carefully, but they seem to be more near the bottom of
the tank.

is this bad?

if bad, what do I do?

check rec.aquaria.freshwater.misc I guess 'cause hydra are critters ;-)

Yup, that sounds like hydras. I found just two in my tank a long time
ago, which no doubt means there are more, but unfortunately I can't
see them now.

Not especially. While they do have a poisonous sting, much like a
jellyfish, they're far to small to hurt anything except the smallest
fish - like fry.

Hydra would be bad in a breeding tank, but in a normal community tank
they shouldn't be a big problem.
