Water Chemistry for Contentious Experts
No wonder beginners give up.
From page 14 of Ines Scheurmann's "Aquarium Plants Manual," published by Barron's, probably the most widely used reference book for beginners: "High carbonate hardness by itself can also be lowered by CO2 fertilization or peat filtration." Is anyone going to help the poster with her algae? I recommend: 1. Reduce lighting to 11 hours and maintain lowered temperature. 2. Continue fertilizing with CO2 but limit introduction of additional nutrients. 3. Forget the pH and kH - they are what they are. 4. Test again in a month and let us know what happened if you feel like it. Regards, Snark James Purchase wrote in message ble.rogers.com... Adding CO2 does NOT change Alkalinity (which is _really_ what you are talking about when you use the term "KH". |
