Default getting hair algae, should I reduce KNO3?

I've been getting hair algae...less since I've started PMDD...but
nevertheless it's there. My nitrate tester kit sucks, the colors don't show
up right or compare at all...but I think I have over 10ppm of nitrates (A
little high?) Should I reduce KNO3? Or might it be something different.
(25-30ppm of C02, 2wpg, 50% weekly water changes, 12 neons, some cats and
otos...about 85% planted--fast growing hygros etc)

Here's my doses for my 15 gallon tank:

twice a week:
1/8 teaspoon of KNO3
1 rice grain's worth of KH2PO4 (still not sure exactly how much is a "rice
grain"s worth )
4mls of Trace mix

once a week after 50% water change
1/4 teaspoon of K2SO4

any opinions please let me know!

Thanx a lot!!

Dave,

Reread the PMDD section on the Krib:

http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Fertilizer/pmdd-tim.html

The bottom line is, once you start dosing all the components, measure Nitrates
and Iron and watch your plant's health and growth to determine what changes to
make. Keeep targeting 10ppm Nitrate, and figure out how to get an accurate test
for Nitrate. Test Iron, as it is the "proxy" for all the other trace elements
in PMDD.

FYI, I recently switched from Seachem Flourish products to PMDD. Here is my
weekly dosing schedule for a heavily planted 72 gallon tank with 3wpg of AHS CF
light on 12 hours per day:

1/4 tsp Plantex + B
1/4 tsp K2SO4
3/4 tsp KNO3
30% weekly water change

Measured Nitrate level hovers a bit under 10. Measured Iron level hovers in the
vicinity of 0.1ppm. I do not dose phosphates, but I do insert 3 whole Jobes
spikes per month beneath sword plants, and they contain phosphate. Plants are
pearling and growing and algae is receeding.

Holy crap...some of your dosings are as much as mine! Is that bad? My
aquarium is only a 15 gallon. Maybe I should chop the dosings on half.
