I'm curious to know how much I might expect to spend on a new planted tank
set-up. Is there a universally accepted cost average? (I've read in marine
systems you might expect to pay $30-$50/gallon).
I'm considering; Laterite,C02 guage and canister, VHOs and perhaps even
MH...

fish cost $100
plants $ 110
CO2 $85 cost, $24/year to operate
lightly planted

thats a high estimate too...I use diy co2 ($3), and once you get the plants..you
can sell your cuttings....

No one buys mine, because I'm just starting out, and dont have enough plants to
sell...(all the cuttings from one tank are filling up the other) But many
people on these newgroups trade the cuttings in at their LFS for cash, or store
credit.

about 17.00 per gallon.

- 55 gal. standart tank = $100
- pine stand for 55 gal. standart = $120
- CF's, relflectors, balast, from AHSupply = $120 (2 wpg) or 230 (4
wpg)
- DIY hood = $10
- CO2 system = $130 (injected in canister)
- 100% Fluorite = $80
- Canister = $100 (Fluval 404)
- Plants = $40 (internet, variety pack)

Total: $800 (2 wpg) or 910 (4wpg)

Of course all of these numbers are based on the view that you must
have certain things (Pressurized CO2 system, strong water movement,
Fluorite, special bulbs).
Depending on how you manage the tank you may be able to reduce the
cost significanlty.
