Default Suggestions for background plant ?

Hello,

I am looking for suggestions for background plants. At the moment, the
back of my tank is covered in twisted vallis, but I am contemplating a
change. For one thing, they grow too long and trail over the surface of
the tank, blocking light to the rest of the plants.

I have successfully grown cabomba and similar before. I am tempted to go
for these again, but am looking for something that will not require
chopping and replanting so often. Trouble with those plants is that you
snip off the tops and what is left looks straggly. You can replant the
tops, but you end up spending the whole day gardening.

Any suggestions welcome. Tank is 150 litre, 3x40W lights, soft acidic
water, DIY CO2, no noticeable nitrite or ammonia, nitrates almost zero.

TIA

Alan, I did mine in anubias frazeri. the ones I order and sell are around 10
to 13 inches tall and make a beautiful background in a tan. The slender
leaves and dark brown stems are stunning.

I use plain old Amazon Swords. Broad, green beautiful.

Regarding your zero nitrates, this may be the reason your plants have
stopped growing (this is in response to your previous thread started four
minutes before this one). It is common to run out of macronutrients (N,P,K)
as your plants grow bigger. Read up on dosing Nitrate he

I used to use them, but as the tank is only 12" from front to back, they
tend to take up too much space. I was looking for something that would
not spread sideways so much.

Regarding your zero nitrates,

Thanx for the comments. Please see my confession in that thread for more
details. I am going to have to monitor this one more carefully.

Thanx for the reply
