Default recommend? good test kit/supplies

yes, yes, i'm really new at this and my tank's been fine ... but i'd
like to know i'm not just 'winging it' or been exceptionally lucky...

i 'specialize in coldwater'. have newts, white c.m. minnows, yo-yo
loaches, some plants (looking to increase marginally). current tank is
10G. basic filter (air pump, charcoal, wooly stuff). basic aq. gravel.

so, what do i need to test for?

what are the best materials/brands?

is there a good kit?

great kit?

tia, ach.

I have the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. Freshwater Master Test Kit
and am very happy with it as a beginning kit. It tests for PH,
Ammonia, KH, GH, and Nitrite.

While we are on the subject From some of the plant folks I am looking
for recommendations for a Iron Test Kit. I have several catalogues
and of course the web sights but the test kits vary from $13 to $50
plus.
