Is this some kind of trick question? Because the right answer is WRITTEN on
the tank in the pic! :-) Rotala macranda, just like the text there says.

Liisa

First I should admit I did not see the written markings, and that was
embarrassing.

Second I have 4 bunch of R. macranda in my tank and nothing is similar
to the one on the picture. Mine is here
http://www.dlink.org/aqua/image/rotala_mac.jpg

Anyway Thank You

Wow, how red! I have seen this red rotala only in pics and I'm more used in
seeing the paler version, like in the first link you gave, in shop tanks.
The color might have to do with the amount of light and iron-based
fertilizers.

My Rotala macranda looks like dominics: taller, less bushy and much redder than
the photo at http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/show040/s046-0.html.

The local and mail order shops I sell it too have all commented on the intense
red color. One believes it is a slightly different subspecies, since it is less
bushy and has longer distances between the nodes, while others think it is
caused by my tank conditions. My tank has 0.1 ppm Iron, Flourite gravel, a good
fert regimen, pH 6.4, KH2, GH2.

Dominic,

I recently shipped some to Dwight at Florida Driftwood.
(http://www.floridadriftwood.com). He suggests that it's a different color
varient, or even a different species, based on the aforementioned differences.

I got mine originally from Albany Aquarium in Albany California (just north of
Berkeley) in February 2002. When I traded them some last week, they pointed out
the bright red color. Then we did a search of the shop, and noticed both
distinct varieties for sale in different tanks : the denser, less-red variety,
and the taller, redder kind.

So I can make the informal observation, based on one uncontrolled data point,
that the two varieties seem to stay different even when kept in similar
conditions in the same store. But you could poke a lot of holes in that
statement!

BTW, Albany Aquaruim has more than 20 tanks filled with healthy plants for
sale...
