I have the 2x55 brite lite kit... it just occurred to me.... do I have 110
Watts? or just 55?? that's one socket, 2 long bulbs.... the more I think
about it, I can't figure whether I've got 55 or 110??? I think 110.....

110watts over a 29g is good...
55watts over a 29g isn't that great....

plants are growing great... but could be just dumb luck...

with CO2, PMDD, and that much light, it is growing pretty good.....

You got 110.
Each bulb is 55 watts.
The 2 bulbs that you see are hooked up to a single ballast. And there
is a single cord coming out of the ballast.

110 over a 29 is great.

Plus AHSupply carries only good quality tubes so you are all set.

and to think, I've been thinking I only had 55w....

I could have had more plants.... I could have had LeighMo's plants too...
and I had to pass them up because we/I/she thought I only had 55w....
DOH!!!!!!!!!

but it was sold as a 2x55, but I understood it as a 2 bulb fixture,
totalling 55w.... if each bulb is 55w, then I DO have 110..... it's bright
enough to be 110, but so is my 4' shoplight with 2x30W bulbs...

I've emailed them to ask what I did get... I'll find out somehow...

Nope.
He said one socket, which means 55Watts.

He said one socket, which means 55Watts.

He could have meant one ballast and just used the wrong terminology.

So, to clear it up, here is the one vital question: How many bulbs light
up when you turn on the power?

If two do and you bought the 2x55W system, then you have 110W. If only one
does, then you have 55W. The 2x55W system means they send you one ballast
that drives two 55W bulbs. They have other "2x" systems as well. I for
example have a 2x36W system.

This is confusing, in a way....

One ballast, and two lights, that plug into one square 4 pin socket. 1
socket, 4 pins, 2 light tubes...

I'm as confused as I thought I was.... or am.... or will be.... confused
that is....

You have 110 watts (2x55). I bought the same thing from ahsupply.com
in January. Works great.

I think it is you who are making it more confusing that it needs to be. So
again, let's try to unconfuse this by going back to my very simple
question. When you plug it in, how many bulbs light up?

Just answer that, nothing more. You're getting yourself all confused on
the other terminology which is confusing everyone else in the process and
making this one very convulted thread on what should have been a very
simple question.

If you actually ordered a 2 x 55 watt kit then you should have two
sockets, two reflectors, and two bulbs for a total of four tubes. If
you still have the packing list then take a look at it. It's
possible, but not probable that Kim made a mistake in packing your
order. I have ordered from AH Supply four times and have never had a
problem.

Tell me what I don't know, not what is already obvious...

what do you call a bulb??? What I see is two bulbs, but they are connected,
so that's one bulb.... see, I can be confusing and confused all at the same
time....

I gave up and called Ken at AH Supply....

I'm a dumbass... I ordered the 1x55.... 1 twin bulb = 55watts....

I'm now standing in the corner with the dunce cap on.... no need to beat me
up anymore.....

Compact Flourescent bulbs are called that because they are a compact version
of a normal flourescent - they are a long skinny tube folded up. What you
are describing seems to be a single blub (two tubes, 4 pins). Basically if
the 'bulbs' are one unit that cannot be taken apart, then it is just a
single bulb. so you have 55 watts.
