Dosing?

I have been keeping 75g planted tank for 6 months. I read alot of info
on the net but no one really has the same opinion about DOSING. Can
someone reveal the secret. I have 4wpg. I use co2(2bubbles per sec). I
use Leaf Zone 0-0-3 liquid fert.(1 capful per day). Plants are growing
but some leaves are yellowish and the red ones are pale.

If you have 4 wpg over a 75 gallon tank, you need a better fertilizer than Leaf
Zone. Leaf Zone has just iron and potassium, I believe. With a high-light
tank like yours, you need more traces, and possibly some nitrate and phosphate,
too.

If money is an issue, read up on PMDD. (Mix your own fertilizer.) Otherwise,
you might give the Seachem line a try. You'll probably need Flourish, Flourish
Iron, and Flourish Potassium. Flourish tabs for root feeders, if you have root
feeding plants. And possibly Flourish Nitrogen and Flourish Phophorus, too.

Another possibility is Tropica Mastergrow. It's fairly complete, but it
doesn't have nitrate or phosphate, so if you need those, you'll have to add
them separately. (You might want to get a nitrate test kit to help you with
the dosing.)

Very much from personal observation only, but I find that Aqualine Ferreal
seems to give me better growth and more O2 bubbles than Fluorish & Fluorish
Fe (using recommended dosages of each). In my Goldfish tank, the nitrate was
also much lower (which makes me believe the balance of nutrients is better),
and plants have gone wild! Has anyone else given it a go?

Cheers,
Poe

Interesting. I don't think that product is widely available in the U.S. (The
Seachem products are, which is why I recommended them.) If I see it, though,
I'll give it a try.

While no secret, this is what I'd do.

4w gal of FL lighting is _a lot_ of light.

1/2 teaspoon KNO3 3x a week
1/16~1/8 teaspoon KH2PO4 2-3x a week
Flourish/Trace element mix 3x a week(15mls each time)

1/2 teaspoon K2SO4 once a week.

Do 50% weekly water changes.

Prune well etc, add herbivores etc.

It is very important to keep the CO2 in the 20-30ppm range. Check
this, don't rely on bubble rate/count to measure CO2.

The above routine will greatly enhance your plant health and is rather
simple and cheap.

The chemicals can be brough at
www.litemanu.com

Tom Barr

It seems to contain quite a wide range of trace; the information is at

..There are some things from their range which is quite interesting.

I don't see anything that's not in Flourish and TMG.

However, it certainly sounds much more complete than Leaf Zone and its ilk.

I don't think normal Flourish has quite as many trace; unfortunately we
can't get TMG in Australia AFAIK, as I'd certainly like to give it a try. 5
weeks into my new 280L tank. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 (neither were ever
detected), unfortunately Nitrate 0; looks like the fishes are going to be
eating well...

Poe
