Are there any disadvantages to using "Aqua-safe" or any other
de-chlorinators? Do these affect fertilization of the plants in any way?

They might interfere minimally with traces if the product binds metals.

In unplanted tanks, simple dechlorniators can release ammonia if your
water supply uses chloramine. If that is the case, use something like
AmQuel or Prime.

Not any I could ever tell.
SeaChem's prime is good if you are worried.
I've used Amquel and Prime for about 15 years and regularly do 50-80%
water changes weekly. .
