Airlock in Eheim Canister filter
I need help.
I just set up a 20G planted tank (60 cm), including an Eheim 2222 canister filter, compressed CO2, and a Fluval surface skimmer. I have to put the Eheim filter on the same bench as the tank because of space problem. The top of the filter is about 15 cm below the water level of the tank. I notice the filter rumbles and pumps out about 5-10 cc of gas every 15-30 min. I have no idea when the gas is from. It can be the CO2 or the air drawn in through the surface skimmer. I have reduced the inflow from the water surface to reduce the air sucked in this way. However, this does not seem to reduce the amount of gas pumps out through the outflow. Today, the filter developed an airlock with noisy impeller and no outflow, requiring repriming of the filter. I wonder if anyone has similar experience or can advise me how to overcome the problem. Many thanks in advance. |

Airlock in Eheim Canister filter
If your filter is just set up it may not be 100% filled with water ? I have
this in my canister filter usually after a couple of hours it stops. Where is the CO2 diffuser connected to ? Do you might have an air stone that bubbles into the intake of the filter ? Did you try shutting it off for a couple of hours ? gizmo "Simon" wrote in message ... I need help. I have finally given up on mine and just removed the surface skimmer. My HOT filter kept "drying" out... water levels in the filter would start out just fine but in less than 2 days the filter would be almost completely dry.... water still pumping in and out, but VERY noisy and lots of air mixed with the outflow... Those darned adjusters on the Fluval surface skimmer do not seem to work very well... water is either flowing very fast down the intake or not flowing at all... when the water flow is faster, you get a large intake of air as well. Note: I also tried that skimmer on my Fluval 303 filter and had the same problem you had, where the filter just locks up with too much air. |
