Land Plants in Water

Hi People,

Has anyone tried to grow land plants in water ?
For ex. I have this lily plant in a soil pot in my drawing room, which
keeps on producing flowers and seeds. I just threw some of those seeds
in my aquarium and now all of them are producing leaves. So just
wondering if the plant will bloom flowers in water as well ? Any
thoughts ?

Thanks,
Jatin

Not likely... emersed plants need more than water can provide.. like..
ummm....soil... You can grow bamboo in an aquarium... and if you have a
sal****er tank, you can grow mangroves in it...

Thanks Red, thats cool. I have some tiny live bamboo shoots with roots
immersed in water. So if I want to add that to my aquarium, should I
cover the roots with gravel or should I just leave them in water ?

Thanks,
Jatin

Not sure... I think you could just put some gravel around it, cuz I've seen
it with marbles around it in a dish, so gravel shouldn't be bad.... Maybe
like some plants, not to totally cover it up, but only to anchor it....

I don't know about plant biology but a lot of common houseplants can
grow if their roots are in water and leaves are out of water. Roots can
get nutrients from soil or water OK, but leaves can only photosynthesize
CO2 in the air not dissolved in water. Doesn't matter too much if the
roots are in the gravel or not, maybe a bit more nutrients in the gravel
(can get in the way of vacuuming though).
