Planted tank
 

Hi
Im thinking of replanting my tank (i didnt anchor my plants well and the
goldies have had a go at them)

So here goes
I was thinking of getting one of those shallow rectangular planters, you
know the type people use to plant things in and sit tem on the window
sill/ledge? The reason for this is that i dont have any gravel and the
window sill potter (make sure its made out of a safe materail) will be
hidden behind my shipwreck and quartz

Would this work....I was thinking of planting a background with jungle
(corkscrew) val. Do they grow quickly?

is there any other plant suggestions anyone might have???

You might have constant headaches trying to stop the goldfish from munching
anything green. Your idea should work fine though, its them damn goldies ya
gotta worry about...

how about placing your light strategically so that maximum attention can be
given to the jungle val and pray that they outgrow what your fish can
munch.. or simply try feeding your goldies more then. i doubt it will be any
effective.

i was thinking getting larger val and planting them in the "safe planters".
In these planters i would put a layer of very fine gravel/course sand. As an
anchor for the plants, i would use mesh just large enough for the val to fit
in and tie with string underneath the mesh to act as a stopper to prevent
the val from being pulled up. The mesh would be the whole length and width
of the planters which then would be weighted down with a few marbles or
equivallent and then covered with the fine gravel for a natural appearance

They only become destructive if i feed them too late.....how they can tell

Go for it Starfish.
Here's a planting tip for Vallisneria. Try not to bury the crown of the
plant below the substrate or the plant will rot. You should be able to see
the roots just above the gravel. These plants are good at Bicarbonate
feeding so you should'nt have to worry about co2, they're also quite
prolific so just buy a few and within a month they all should have sent out
baby runners. Wait at least a month before severing the baby from the mother
plant. Cheers and good luck.

Wallis Creek Garden Centre in Newcastle sells a native Eel Grass over the
web

Native Eel Grass is sold by them as a pond plant, but it is actually an
Australian Val. It's thick, tall and strong.

I am personally sick to death of the spiral imported stuff being so easily
distrupted if it's roots are distrurbed, so I am going to try some of this
Kakadu water plant in my tank.

Given 12 hours of good light a day I think this plant willgrow and look
great in an aquarium.

Just a thought any way.

Yes its nice decision to have corkscrew, it grows really fast so your replanting tank plan really works with this kind of decision. Actually I am really thinking about this also.
