There was a stand of these with some bamboo and bannana trees in the
corner of the patio near the swimming pool where we used to live in
Torrance California.

We moved away from there when I was twelve. :-)

I've got one of those, it spent many years in a 5 gallon pot and every
couple of years would send up a flower. Two years ago I found a place to
put it in the ground and it sent up two flowers and now it has eight
flower buds coming up - if they didn't get killed by the frost last
night.
