Edinburgh Botanical Gardens

My wife and I first saw these wonderful gardens in 1996. We were very
happy to be able to visit them again last fall. The day we went the
weather was sunny and warm - around 15 degrees C. Many other people
besides ourselves took advantage of the weather to visit the park. We
enjoyed watching the little children run around on the grass, fall down,
pick themselves up, and run some more. Families of three generations
wandered about, soaking up the sun and the sights. There was very little
noise. People chatted quietly with each other, or just stood and looked
around. It is a wonderful garden, well worth a visit. Just be sure to
allow a whole day, and wear a good comfortable pair of shoes - it's easy
to rack up the miles wandering around it!

We had a lovely lunch in the cafe, and visited two shows. One displayed
pictures of gardens and below them low-relief reproductions of the same
scenes for blind people to touch. I tried "seeing" them with my fingers,
but I don't know how - nothing felt the way I expected it to feel from
its visual appearance.

The other show was of a wonderful variety of sculptures and other
objects made from scrap materials, illustrating the themes of Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle. They had been made by school children, adults in
community groups, even people working in offices. I took some pictures
of these, too, will post a few if anyone wants to see them.
