Aka Trumpet Vine
I was driving down the road when I spotted this guy, and I had to turn around and go back for a picture. Most naturalized Campsis I know are orange, and I have a hybridized yellow one, but this fire-engine red really caught my eye. This was growing in an overgrown brush area not associated with a house, but I suspect that it may have been purchased, planted and cultivated years ago, before outliving its masters. Since this is growing in what is now essentially unoccupied wild-space right along a road, I may go back and dig up a small specimen to be a companion for my yellow guy.
