That is as I have always know them as since I got a few from the plant
dividend at the Phila harvest show. I hope that is correct. I have
donated a few hundred back to them over the years.

Since I have both growing in my yard, I thought I'd take a few pics of
their seed capsules. Aside from the differences in the seed capsules,
note that the Belamcambda has straplike leaves very similar to irises,
while the Crocosmia has more delicate leaves, less meaty, with prominent
venation. Flowers of some Crocosmias are quite similar to Belamcambda
chinensis, so the mistake is somewhat understandable. Sometimes a
mistake can be a fun surprise. I once purchased "candy lilies" (the
picture was definitely Belamcambda) from someone on ebay who sent me
some rather large bulbs which I knew could not be what they were
purported to be, and I was disappointed. But I planted them in pots and
they turned out to be gigantic Asiatic Lilies with spotted flowers
having a superficial resemblance to Belamcambda. I love them!
