Just out from my door to my backyard I have a large garden bed which I
had mulched heavily with "green" wood and bark chips. After a couple of
months of drought, we had a week of rain in autumn producing an
abundance of fungi in the areas I had mulched. I don't know anything
more about this fungus. Sorry if the pic is too large.

I know the picture is about the fungus (and I don't know what they
are, either) but this picture looks like autumn. It's coming!

It looks a bit like honey fungus to me.

Some people get hysterical at the mention of it but it's not necessary, it
comes sometimes in my garden but not often. It's particularly keen on
cut-down trees or shrubs.

It can be eaten, some like it. I haven't tried it.

Thanks, Mary. If it isn't honey fungus, that's a nice enough name for me
want to use your suggestion anyway. It certainly appeared where I had
deposited shredded tree limbs and shrub clippings.

It can be eaten, some like it. I haven't tried it.

I'm not *that* adventurous either :-)

It certainly is (or was) coming. My autumn is 6 months apart from yours.
Which for me can only mean one thing. Spring is on it's way! :-)

like blewits and oysters), trouble is that I don't know what the best time
to eat honey fungus is and I always leave it too late to pick them and they
liquify!
