I just read that you open the OeyEnc program which opens Outlook express. Is that correct people? Maybe I read someone's article who didn't know? I use agent so it is just simple and wonderful. |

You asked for it. ;-) When you send a file over the internet, it must be encoded (converted into alphanumeric characters, actually.) The standard methods are MIME and UUE. Both actually make the transmitted file bigger than the original. Your e-mail program/newsreader/browser converts the file back into its original format. ("Standard" means approved an adopted by an international body, which is made up of delegates from national standards and professional bodies.) However, a yEnc encoded file is smaller than the original, which is a great benefit to people who are on dial-up. Also the further you are from your broadband node, the slower your speed, so it can be of benefit even to broadband users. Unfortunately, yEnc is not standard, exists in several non-compatible versions, and is proprietary. Most 3rd party newsreaders can handle some or all varieties, but OE can't - MS doesn't license other people's software, it buys it, and the owner didn't want to sell. Or so the story goes. Oh ok? JV, but will it work with WindowsMail on Vista?
I was also questioning why use yEenc in the first place? Is Agent free? Cheers Wendy "joevan" wrote in message ... No Agent is not free. There used to be a free agent but not sure anymore. As to vista I can't help there as I won't use vista ever. XP is more than enough. Everything I need works on XP. You are using outlook express, I believe and if you have ever opened a yEnc post without knowing it and gotten a lot of numbers and hash then the OeyEnc program could be good to go. Try it it should work and I don't think it could hurt. But wait and make sure. I will google it for you but maybe someone here who also uses vista will come to your aid. |

That's right. Just click on OeyEnc shortcut and use OE as you normally would. One drawback with OeyEnc is that "yEnc" must be in the subject line. If not, the attachment comes up as gibberish. Simple workaround: save the resulting message to your desktop and pipe it through yEnc32. A bit kludgy, but it works. :-) |
